Insight (Club Lanka in a previous guise) is a hotel built on traditional lines - 33 rooms in two wings at a time when many budget holidaymakers are chasing more intimate, cabana-style properties. If that deems is outdated to some, what it does, it does well. The hanger-roofed restaurant and bar areas are airy and open, the food is perfectly sound without being spectacular, the beachside swimming pool is a decent size, and the sandy tropical beach is attractive even by the demanding standards of the south coast. An enthusiastic manager also ensures a happy welcome from committed, if inexperienced, staff. Visit in low season and you may almost feel that you own the place. Further proof that Sri Lanka can still offer extraordinary value. Insight is blessed by some of the South coast's best surfing beaches. It lies just outside Ahangama , between Galle and Matara  and will particularly delight surfing enthusiasts or backpackers whose days of cheap guest houses have gone.
